The Birth of penbuddy...

Back In the summer holidays of 2005, which seems a long time ago now, I wanted a way of keeping in touch with my friends wherever they were on the globe. I flicked through a few of the social networks but came to none that suited my needs.

I wanted the typical stuff – photos, comments, blog, video… - but I wanted more as well. What would make this site different (and loved) is that it would be full of things that people wanted.

I wrote down a few ideas of my own (on a rough piece of paper from a recycling tray) and then went to ask what other things my friends wanted. It would be like real life on the internet.

Then I realized it could be more!

It could reinvent real life. It could make real life better. Making it easier to meet the people you see every day. Making it easier to find out who else shares your likes, dislikes, favourite movies, music, TV Shows … I wrote the name down on my notebook and penbuddy was born.

Penbuddy is about building a site you will want to use for the rest of your life. It's about making penbuddy something that will be around (and loved) for many years from now.

And by the way, penbuddy will always be free. I am never going to even consider charging. Why? Because I want this site to be something which everyone can love as much as I do and after all, you can’t charge people to socialize and have fun!

Building It

Ok, so how do you go from a scrap piece of paper to a site? That's the secret.
